Corporate and Community Education


The Corporate and Community Education Division (CCE) at Tri-County Technical College offers focused short-term training programs to promote and support individual success, community and economic development.

The CCE program offerings include nationally-recognized certification programs, QuickJobs training, short courses, seminars and workshops, and apprenticeship opportunities.  Courses are provided  in a variety of formats from in-class, to on-site, to hybrid, to online courses, and they are designed to help individuals get real hands-on experience to secure a new  job or move into a better one.

QuickJobs Training Programs

Even in times of high unemployment, many jobs continue to go unfilled. Job seekers are often told that they lack the occupational skills the company seeks. Industry experts agree that at least 65% of future jobs will require specific or occupational training, and not a four-year degree. These are the “middle skill” jobs  that can be obtained by completing one of our short-term certificate-based QuickJobs Training Programs.

While these program are designed to lead to immediate employment, many of the courses will transfer for credit toward Tri-County Technical College’s academic programs, for students  ready to seek a degree.

Small Business Start-Up & Entrepreneur Development

For those considering starting a business or exploring  ways to make a current business more profitable, CCE offers an array of business development courses.  This division works with many Small Business Centers, Chambers of Commerce and private resources, offering cutting edge curriculum.  Along with business development courses, CCE also offer technical training for business services, including:

WorkKeys® Assessments

CCE conducts WorkKeys assessments in support of the SC WorkReady Communities initiative.  WorkKeys assessments measure workplace skills critical to job success and are recognized by many of our local employers.  The skills tested, which include Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information, are valuable for any occupation, skilled or professional, at any level of education, and in any industry.  Successful completion in all three skill areas will result in a Career Readiness Certificate (CRC).  CCE offers free CareerReady 101 access, which allows individuals to practice for the test online, and as often as needed.  For more information, visit www.tctc.edu/workkeys.

Departments

American Heart Association First Aid and CPR Courses

CCE’s First Aid and CPR courses are designed for healthcare professionals, business and industry employees, or the general public.  Courses can provide students with the training  needed and are taught to the standards of the American Heart Association (AHA) for First Aid and CPR training. Additionally, courses can assist businesses meet workplace compliance with OSHA guidelines.  Open enrollment courses are available, in addition to training classes that can be taught at a  worksite or organization.  For more information see the http://www.tctc.edu/x594.xml.

Business Training Center

This center provides a wide range of QuickJobs Certificate programs and courses for basic computer training, desktop applications, IT Certifications, office skills, small business and small business start-up, photography, construction, criminal justice, and a selection of hundreds of online programs and courses.

Career Development

This area provides QuickJobs Certificates in culinary arts, interior design, and real estate.

The Center for Workforce Excellence

This center provides training and services to manufacturing or service industries, government agencies, and individuals on topics such as supervision, management, team building, and specific training to upgrade the technical skills of industrial employees, and more. The SCMC Certified Production Technician QuickJobs Certificate program, one of the most popular programs, prepares workers for entry level industrial positions.

Commercial Driving/Transportation Department

This department offers QuickJobs Certificates in Class A (160 hours) and Class B (70 hours) commercial driver’s license training, as well as a 40-hour Refresher course. The Class A and Class B training provides the required hours needed to test and become licensed as a commercial driver. The refresher program provides necessary training for individuals who have a current CDL license but have been out of driving for over a year to update skills and become marketable as a truck driver once again. This department also offers defensive driving for both automobile (4 point reduction available once every three years upon completion of the course) and commercial drivers, .

Health Care

This Department offers courses and certificates in several in-demand health care career areas. The course of study for each of our certificates meets state or national professional standards and qualify the student to taker the state or national exam in that specific career field. Programs offered include direct patient care  and administrative support.  CCE’s health care department also offers  professional development hours or approved CEUs in specific career fields. Area healthcare facilities and organizations can also request customized training programs.

Highway Construction/Inspection/Testing

This area provides training and certification for the highway construction industry, including National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) core curriculum, NCCER heavy equipment operator, and South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) materials testing technician certifications in the areas of asphalt, coarse aggregate, earthwork/base course, bridge foundations, and pavement preservationQuickJobs training is also available for individuals interested in becoming certified as SCDOT asphalt and earthwork/base course technicians.

Personal Enrichment

CCE’s Life and Leisure courses offer  a variety of courses that include handgun safety, photography, drivers’ education, writing, sewing, language classes, and more.

Financial Aid Through CCE

Students enrolled in Corporate and Community Education (non-credit) classes are not eligible to receive the Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, or Lottery Tuition Assistance. However, other tuition assistance and loan programs are available for Corporate and Community Education courses and QuickJobs Certificate programs.

  • Scholarships covering full tuition are available for qualifying students taking the South Carolina Manufacturing Certified (SCMC) course. See www.tctc.edu/scmc for more information on the course and the calendar of information sessions.
  • Through a federal grant Make It In America challenge, CCE offers scholarships for qualified students seeking training in CNC Programming, Welding, Mechatronics, or Production Technician.
  • Many of the CCE programs are eligible for VA education benefits, and some private funding may be available from Veterans Scholarships Forever.
  • CCE also offers scholarships for qualifying women wanting to explore careers in Information Technology, Administrative Office, and Medical Office through the AARP Back to Work 50+ program.
  • Students loans are available through an arrangement with Wells Fargo bank.
  • Scholarship grants are also available for individuals qualifying for Workforce Investment Act funds.

Business and Industry Services

CCE is a resource for the businesses and industries in our region.  Businesses look to CCE as a partner in developing their workforce of the future through providing advanced, specialized, and often tailored training programs.  Because of this close working relationship, businesses recruit CCE’s students and often engage in apprenticeships and work study opportunities.

For businesses in the tri-county area, CCE offer courses and  programs on-site at an organization’s location on a schedule that accommodates their business activities. CCE’s customized courses are designed specifically to meet the needs of each business customer by helping to identify the learning outcomes required to meet organizational goals, and then by developing the courses accordingly.  Employees gain practical skills they can apply on the job.
