Program Information
The Media Arts Production (MAP) program at Tri-County Technical College offers a comprehensive, hands-on education in both creative content development and the technology that drives today’s digital media. Designed to reflect current industry standards and trends, the program prepares students for diverse careers across traditional and emerging media platforms by combining technical training with artistic exploration.
Students gain real-world experience using professional-grade equipment, industry-standard software, and production tools. The curriculum includes video production and editing, photography, graphic design, website and social media content creation, motion graphics, audio and podcast production, and writing for various media formats. Coursework in media entrepreneurship and professional practices further equips students for leadership roles in the media industry, small business ownership, and freelance work.
With the rapid expansion of digital and mobile content creation, MAP graduates are in demand across industries. Career opportunities include video editing, content creation, graphic design, photography, social media management, motion graphics, and media production in sectors such as broadcasting, marketing, education, corporate communication, and nonprofit organizations.
Scheduling and Entry Options
The MAP program is primarily housed at the Pendleton Campus, where students have access to dedicated studios and media labs. A selection of courses is available online for added flexibility. General Education classes required for the degree can be completed at any TCTC campus and at any time during the program, provided placement criteria and prerequisites are met.
The MAP course sequence begins in the fall semester each year. Entry during other terms is permitted but may limit course availability or require an extended graduation plan. Full-time students typically complete the program in five terms, including one required summer term. Part-time students should plan for six to nine terms to earn the degree.
Students who have taken media or graphic design courses through high school Career Centers may be eligible for Technical Advanced Placement (TAP) credit, allowing them to earn college credit for prior experience. Students interested in continuing their education are encouraged to meet with a Program Advisor to explore articulation agreements with regional four-year universities, ensuring a smooth transfer into a bachelor’s degree program.
Additional Requirements for Media Arts Production
All Media Arts Production students must earn a grade of “C” or higher in all courses to qualify for graduation. Credit towards graduation requirements for MAP courses more than five years old must be approved by the Program Director.
